Feeding your dog a balanced diet is the key to a healthy and happy hound! Treats are also an essential part of their social/emotional development. How much is too much? Well, not to count calories but a good rule of thumb is that you can reward up to 10% of the daily caloric intake in high-value high protein treats.
Our beef liver treats provide high quality proteins, good fats and vital nutrients that help your dog thrive for so many reasons. Here’s our why:
Proteins are important for the maintenance of muscle, skin, hair, nails, blood, cartilage, tendons, and ligaments. It is this very reason, we take our meaty treats so seriously. If you invest in high quality proteins (known as high-value food to some) it is easily digestible for dogs and, most importantly, bioavailable. Hence, the introduction of the liver treat to the Beg & Barker range. What is bioavailability, you may ask (if not, skip ahead #SpoilerAlert)? It means that not only does the jerky stick have a high protein content but the proteins are easy for your dogs body to extract during digestion and utilize. Dog food and treats must have 18% protein as a minimum requirement for adult dogs set by AAFCO, all of our treats have at least 68% protein that is 100% bioavailable. We do not do minimums, we do not do halfway, we do meat.
Healthy fat and essential fatty acids are not only an important source of energy for our canine companions, but also assist with the absorption of all fat-soluble vitamins. Liver is considered a superfood for dogs with high healthy fat levels, including long chain fatty acids and the oh-so important omegas: Omega 3 and Omega 6. Liver treats go a long way to help the maintenance of shiny coats, happy hearts and healthy joints. Reading the label can be tough because pet treats publish nutritional data as a percentage but a tenth of the average liver treat is made up of this fat.
Let’s not forget about Vitamins. The A to Z of vitamins are important in order to maintain your dogs overall health. Beef Liver is chock full of these vitamins and is often referred to as nature’s multivitamin. Vitamin A keeps the eyes bright, skin healthy and boosts the immune system; it also helps with bone density. Vitamin B1 and B6 are the brain boosters. Vitamin D and Vitamin K are needed for healthy bones and general repairs. Then comes the complex Bs which keep a dog’s metabolism primed: Vitamin B2, B3, B5, B7 and B12.
To retain all of this natural goodness, we air-dry it to keep it as close to nature as possible. Our treats are always air-dried and never freeze-dried to ensure all of these natural nutrients in the raw meat stay in the finished treat. The air-drying process retains all the good stuff: vitamins, minerals, fats with carefully controlled humidity. Our liver treats are one ingredient only – human-grade, USDA-inspected, USA-sourced from the cows. Liver is such a lovely reward, don’t believe us?
